The Power of Facilitative Learning

Kids (not to mention adults) automatically learn about what they are interested in, and what they need to know in order to get what they want. This doesn’t mean that they will, if left to their own devices, automatically study grammar, essay writing, history, trigonometry, and all of the rest of what is considered essential to standardized education. It means that, given a facilitative environment, they will enthusiastically devote themselves to learning the skills they need in order to do what they want in life and fulfill their dreams, whatever those may be.

Given that practically all kids’ dreams include, at some point, making the world a better place, I am hopeful for the potential of facilitative environments, for this reason: if but one in a hundred kids today are empowered to fulfill their dreams, the world will be radically transformed, and the problems that humanity faces today will be completely gone, within a generation.
